Question of the Week

An expired sc 482 visa, a Bridging Visa A and the need to travel.

Category: Visa for Australia

Question asked

Hi,

I am originally in Australia on a sc 482 visa - expired on 23rd of August and currently on bridging A visa. I am due to travel to Ireland tomorrow evening, and, under the impression a Bridging Visa B process would be automatic, applied yesterday. It has not come through and I am concerned that it will not come through in time for my flight tomorrow evening.

Does the fact that I have applied for the Bridging Visa B means that I can travel abroad or will my travel result in cessation of the visa? If I do travel and the visa ceases, will i be able to re-enter Australia at the end of December as planned?

I would appreciate a call as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

C.

Hi C.,

I strongly advise NOT to leave the country without the bridging visa B being granted.

If you leave whilst holding the bridging visa A you will not be able to return on the visa.

Depending on which visa you initially applied for I would suggest emailing the processing center and ask them to grant the bridging visa B urgently as you have a flight scheduled.

If it is a sponsorship try emailing espd(@)homeaffairs.gov.au with a copy of your passport, bridging visa application and travel booking and request it to be granted.

Thanks for the prompt response. I am sponsored by the hospital I work in so have emailed that email. If I do leave the country and the visa lapses, is it possible to re-enter the country on a tourist visa and await my substantive visa to kick in?

----- Clarification by Migration Agent -----

Hi C.,

It is possible to do so. But there is a possibility the tourist visa can be refused.

Email them again in the morning to push them to grant the visa.

But once again, in my opinion I would not leave Australia until it is granted.
